Minutes - 4th January, 2005
On January 4th the regularly scheduled meeting of
the SVARC was held at the clubhouse. 12 members were present.
A quick repeater report was heard that all 3 repeaters
were up and operating.
AB3AX reported on the Christmas Dinner that a good
time was had by all that attended the party at the Ric-Mar restaurant.
Gordon has booked that restaurant for the Sweethearts Dinner on
Saturday the 12th of February. Please let Gordon know if you plan
to attend, Gordon@yogatech.com. The dinner will again be served
family style.
Acknowledgement was received from ARRL for our
contribution to the Spectrum Defense Fund.
Some discussion took place regarding having a"
swap meet "among the membership prior to the regular meeting
some time in the future.
The license for W3VPJ now had an FRN number with
the FCC so action can take place on line.
The possibility of having a VE session on the 15th
of January was discussed with a another VE session the first weekend
in April following a licensing class.
Lewisburg Arts Festival coincides with the inauguration
of a new president of Bucknell that weekend and they believe this
may add as many as 2000 people to the Festival. The assistance
of all members is going to be needed for this activity the last
Saturday in April. 146.565 simplex will be used to cover the festival
with 147.27 as a talk-in for members coming to help out. The possibility
of using Amateur TV to help with coverage of the festival was
discussed and Marv N3JIW indicated he is working on getting some
equipment operational for this effort.
Some listening was done at the 82 site and it was
learned there is a high power paging system on 152.18 operating
in the area that is giving us some of our problems with this repeater.
Field day was discussed with the possibility of
having it at the clubhouse this year but no definite action was
taken.
Also discussed was having a joint operating activity
at Knobel's Grove with the Columbia-Montour Club for the scouting
weekend this summer.
The idea of a fox hunt was tabled for warmer weather
.
Some discussion of reviving the 10 meter FM link
was made but John was unsure if the current controller can handle
this activity.(Some years ago we did have a 2/10 meter link active
at the 18 site.)
Chris NG3F reported Snyder County may be putting
their own 440 repeater up at the Shade Mountain site sometime
this coming summer.
WB3HML conducted the 50-50 drawing with a total
take of $11.00, it was won by Tom, KE3BP who donated his winngs
back to the club.
